The Parenting’s Dean Norris Talks Living With Lisa Kudrow and Parker Posey

Ever wonder what Parker Posey and Lisa Kudrow would be like as roommates? Breaking Bad alum Dean Norris exclusively told Us Weekly that he stayed in the same house with the comedic duo while filming The Parenting.

“Oh, it was like we had movie nights and game nights, and we would cook out together and all this kind of stuff. It was great. It was like one of the best off-set casts, off-set fun I’ve had with a cast,” Norris, , 61, told Us on the red carpet of the New York City premiere of the Max original film The Parenting on Tuesday, March 11.

Norris also couldn’t contain his excitement when he realized he would play Kudrow’s husband in the film, which debuted on Thursday, March 13.

“Lisa Kudrow is just [a] comic genius man,” he gushed to Us. “We met literally the first day I arrived.”

The Parenting, a comedy mixed with horror, follows a young couple, Rohan and Josh (played by Nik Dodani and Brandon Flynn, respectively), into a country house they have rented for the weekend to introduce their parents for the first time. However, they quickly find out that the home is haunted. The laid back parents of Josh, Liddy and Cliff (Kudrow and Norris), meet Rohan’s more structured adoptive parents, Sharon and Frank (Edie Falco and Brian Cox), and chaos ensues.

To prepare for his role, Norris tapped into his roots. “​​I found him rather quickly because I come from the Midwest. I thought he was a Midwestern, square guy, but he loves his gay son,” Norris told Us. “It was very important to me to have that in there.”

Norris previously played Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad from 2008 through the show’s final season in 2013. So how would Schrader, a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, fight an evil entity lurking in the shadows of a weekend getaway rental? “I think he’d kick his f—ing ass,” Norris told Us.

Norris still keeps in touch with everybody from the Breaking Bad cast, including Bryan Cranston. “​​Oh yeah, email and text, chat lines and we don’t bother each other too much. But yeah, we talk a lot,” he told Us.

Posey plays eccentric house manager Brenda in the film. She also currently stars as Victoria Ratliff in a scene-stealing role from the hit show The White Lotus. Has Norris binge-watched her performance like everyone else?

“Not yet,” he told Us, “I can’t wait. I can’t wait. I heard she’s great and I can’t wait.”
