Mattel Accidentally Lists Adult Film Site on 'Wicked' Dolls Packaging

Mattel had a massive misprint on the boxes for its new Wicked dolls.

According to customers and photos published by the New York Post on Sunday, November 10, the toy company behind Barbie and Hot Wheels accidentally printed the address of an adult film website on the boxes for its line of Wicked dolls, featuring characters from the new film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo from Universal Pictures.

Photos and videos of the mistake were uploaded to social media by customers who had purchased the dolls and seen the URL listed on the box. The website shown in the photos of the toy packaging leads to a porn website with the same name of the movie, rather than the movie’s actual website, wickedmovie.com.

“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” a spokesperson for Mattel told Us Weekly on Sunday. “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”

“LMAO Universal Pictures put the wrong website for @wickedmovie on the back of their dolls for kids. It leads to a p0rn website,” one X user wrote. Included in their post were photos of the dolls inspired by the film’s main characters, Elphaba and Glinda, played by Erivo, 37, and Grande, 31, respectively.

“Oh my dear god, Mattel accidentally listed ‘Wicked dot com’ (porn site) instead of ‘Wickedmovie dot com’ (official site) on the Wicked movie doll boxes. And it seems to be on most of the boxes in the assortment (I just checked on eBay),” a second X user wrote.

Another fan shared an image of the Glinda doll via X with the incorrect website printed on the back as well. “The official Mattel Wicked dolls link to a p0rn site on the box,” the user captioned the post.

Earlier this year, Mattel posted a video via Instagram of Erivo and Grande seeing the dolls for the first time. The post was made jointly with Erivo, who wrote in the caption, “What a dream come true to be realized as Elphaba and Glinda in the form of Sweet Little dolls. Little Cynthia and little Ari are pleased.”

The realization of Mattel’s Wicked mix-up came just one day after the film’s red carpet premiere in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 9, which alongside Erivo and Grande, featured the film’s stars Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode and Ethan Slater, plus other celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Ashley Tisdale, Normani, Frankie Grande, Sarah Paulson, Ben Platt, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Troye Sivan and Sophia Bush.

Wicked premieres in theaters on November 22.
